My Story

I have served in ministry for the past 20 years, from the early days as a pastor’s wife to missionary to now a ministry leader. In that time I have experienced and seen a lot. After experiencing ministry burnout and cumulative trauma myself, I thought I was done with ministry. I gave it one last chance. Little did I know that season of unclarity would lead me to my next purpose, helping others in their stuck and unclear seasons. Now, I have served hundreds of people as they walk through trauma and hard seasons — health issues, death, divorce, political upheaval, and most recently, a global pandemic.

Years ago, as I sat with a client during an eight-hour debriefing session, I realized that I wanted to do more but I didn’t know how. So, I started training in different approaches. What I found was a lack of resources that integrated mental health principles within a Biblical framework. This led me to create a practical step-by-step processing resource that gives the next steps during seasons of unclarity, called the Renewed Hope Approach. Now, this approach is used all over the world.

Testimonies

“The one-day retreat proved to be a place where the women could safely reflect and process what the Lord was doing within each of them. Shonna led us through personal times of reflection. The morning focused on shifting our perspective on grief. Instead of seeing grief as something that only people who have lost a loved one experiences, we examined the many sources of grief that may be invading our lives.  We read scripture and practiced bringing our griefs to the Lord, while acknowledging both the hurts of the world and the healing Jesus provides.”   Rebecca B.-Retreat Participant

“In just  six short weeks my sense of peace about entering into a Re-entry Season went from a 1-no peace at all to an 8-there is hope!-Becky-6 week group participant

“The ideas Shonna shares on Forgiveness was so clear and life changing!”-Jean-6 week group participant

“I made my counselor cry today, because I am rebounding so much faster than she ever thought possible. I owe it all to this program!”-Michelle-6 Week Group Participant

“As someone who administers inner healing prayer ministry. When my client do Shonna’s “Blobs of Loss” exercise, the strongholds and downloads come much quicker.”-Beth

“Shonna, thank you so much for all the time and effort that goes into training people to minister to others. I’m grateful for the Lord’s work in the hearts of the people who attend the TH (trauma healing) groups. In so short a time, it is having a tremendous impact.:-Donna R-Training Participant

I cannot say enough about how valuable a process this will be for anyone looking for a little (or a lot) of direction. Shonna skillfully and relationally walked me through what each exercise meant about how I am uniquely made. She guided me with ease through the tasks and revealed different aspects of what makes us human. She helped to take the shame out of thinking “I don’t like that kind of work” or “I don’t do well in _____ situation.” I have come away from this process with renewed appreciation and acceptance for how I function and where my skills are. Knowing these better, I’m more prepared to take on the job market. -Shannon S-Coaching Client

I joined a 6 week cohort for global workers that have returned to the states. We worked through topics like grief, loss, lament, expectations, and forgiveness. This summer I had come to realize that I was still very tightly holding onto my dreams and expectations of how I thought my life would go. This cohort was a helpful piece in the process of coming to a place again (not to say there won’t be more struggles of this ahead) of open-handedness before the Lord and trusting him in a situation that I wouldn’t have chosen.-Mary.
